If you live, work or study in Orkney then you can become a full member of Orkney Library while visitors to Orkney are welcome to join on a temporary visitor membership.
You can join the library at Orkney Library & Archive in Kirkwall, at the Warehouse Buildings in Stromness or at the Mobile Library. You just need to fill in a simple application form and provide proof of identity to register for a library card. An account will be set up for you and you will be given a library card to use at any of our branches. You will also be given a PIN to access our computers or so that you can access our online services from home including access to download our eBooks and eAudiobooks.
Joining as an Adult (16+)
To join the Library you just need to fill in an application form and provide proof of identity.
Joining as a Child (0-13) or Teen (13-16)
If you are under 16 years old your application form must be signed by a parent or guardian in the Library. If they are not already a library member they will also have to provide proof of identity.
Joining as a Visitor
If you are a tourist or a short-term visitor to Orkney (staying a minimum of a week) you can join the library on a visitor membership. You just need to fill in an application form which includes your home address AND the address of your Orkney accommodation and provide some proof of identity. Visiting families can also set up a Family Visitor Membership so the whole family can access the library services using one application form and card.
