Teenage Readers (age 13 – 16)
Our teenage members have an area of the library all to themselves so that they can spend time reading, relaxing, studying or using computers and Wi-Fi in a safe, comfortable space of their own.
The Libraries in Kirkwall and Stromness both have their own areas for teenage readers with a wide range of facilities and resources.
Loanable Kits
We have loanable Birdwatching and Games Kits which can be borrowed by anyone.
The Birdwatching Kits contain a rucksack, binoculars, an RSPB Booklet, spotting sheets, pencils, colouring sheets and the Orkney Book of Birds.
Games Kits contain a foam football, 2 rackets, tennis balls, a Frisbee, cones, a skipping rope and beanbags.
Homework
If you need help with homework or study we have a wide range of non-fiction books and study guides that could help. We also have FREE Wi-Fi and a number of PCs with FREE internet access which you can use once a parent or guardian has signed a consent form. We also have printing facilities which are available at a reduced rate when printing for homework or study.
Mobile Library
If you live outside Kirkwall or Stromness you can also use the Mobile Library which carries a range of books for children and teenagers. You can also order specific titles to be collected from the Mobile Library by browsing our online catalogue and reserving the books you want.
Literacy Circles
We have multiple copies of many books aimed at junior and teenage readers. They are available to anyone but will be particularly useful for school, clubs or reading groups. To find out what titles are available go to our online catalogue.
