At Orkney Library & Archive we have two rooms which can be hired for meetings, exhibitions or presentations.  Both rooms have Wi-Fi. The MacGillivray Room has a hearing loop installed.

Kirkwall

The MacGillivray Room is a large and comfortable room with adjoining kitchen facilities, while the Carnegie Room is more suitable for smaller groups. We also have a range of presentation and display equipment available for hire. You can contact us at meeting.room@orkney.gov.uk.

Stromness

The meeting room facilities at the Warehouse Buildings in Stromness are managed by OIC Customer Services so if you have any questions regarding availability of these rooms please contact stromnesscs@orkney.gov.uk. There are three rooms for hire; the John Rae Room, the Marjory Corrigall Room and the Archie Bevan Room. All three rooms have access to kitchen facilities.

Cost of room and equipment hire

Please note that none of our meeting rooms are available for hire on Sundays, public holidays or outwith library opening hours.

MacGillivray Room

Capacity: Maximum Boardroom or Hollow Square for 20 people. Maximum Presentation for 45 people. Maximum Standing room only for 60 people. This room has an adjoining kitchen with access via a hatch. £32.50 + VAT per session (up to 4 hours) or an exhibition rate of £54.17 + VAT per day. Use of the kitchen facilities charged at £5 + VAT per session.

Carnegie Room

Capacity: Maximum Boardroom or Hollow Square for 12 people. Maximum Boardroom or Hollow Square for 8 people when projector and screen is in use. Maximum Presentation for 25 people. Maximum Standing room only for 35 people. This room has a sink and washing-up facilities with access to a nearby kitchen. £23.33 + VAT per session (up to 4 hours). Use of the nearby kitchen facilities charged at £8.33 + VAT per session.

Equipment hire

Smart Board: £20.83 per day + VAT

Laptop, projector and screen: £16.67 per day + VAT

Flip chart stand, paper and pens: £6.67 per day + VAT

Display boards: Free within the building, £16.67 + VAT per set if used elsewhere (for up to a week)

Use of the Foyer for display or exhibition purposes is FREE.
